William ("Bill") H. Latham was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps from the UNC NROTC Program in May of 1985. He was the Class of 1985 recipient of the Richard S. Johnson Jr. award (Marine officer's sword).
After graduation from The Basic School and Communication Officer's School in Quantico, Virginia, Bill was designated a Communications Officer (MOS 2502). Bill then received orders to 8th Communication Battalion, 2nd FSSG, Camp Lejeune, NC where his initial assignment was as Platoon Commander of the Satellite Multichannel Communications Platoon. He then served then as a communications detachment commander in support of NATO Exercise Northern Wedding/Bold Guard '86. His next assignment was as 8th Communications Battalion Adjutant. In March of 1988, Bill received orders to 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. There he served as an Assistant Series Commander and a Series Commander before assuming the position of Battalion Adjutant. Bill left active duty in August of 1989 to attend the UNC School of Law. He was promoted to Captain in the Individual Ready Reserve and resigned his reserve Commission in May of 1993.
Bill graduated with honors from the UNC School of Law in May of 1992. In August of 1992, he joined the law firm of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP in Columbia, South Carolina as an associate and over 29 years later he is still there, having been elected a partner in 1999. Bill is a litigator with a nationwide practice focused on commercial and distribution litigation and class action defense.
Bill has been married to Julie Davis Latham for over twenty-four years and they have two young adult children Davis (22) and Maegan (20).
