Alumni Association Celebrates Its 12th Reunion on October 12, 2002
By Brant Burgiss
Webmaster, UNC NROTC Alumni Association
The annual meeting of the UNC NROTC Alumni Association was held on Saturday, October 12, 2002 at the Naval Armory in Chapel Hill. A pig pickin' and cocktail party helped round out a terrific weekend of fellowship.
Despite an early first half lead, the Tar Heel football team fell to the visiting Wolfpack from NC State.
The guest of honor for this year's annual meeting was Walt Fitts '59 from Emerald Isle, NC. The Distinguished Service Award was awarded to Fitts, while Charles Neely '65 was recognized for his many years of state and community service when he was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award by President Jim Bailer.
Elections for the 2003-2004 Board of Directors were held during the General Meeting of the Alumni Association. See the results here.
MIDN 3/C Emily Carole Miller, USNR was awarded the annual Alumni Association's scholarship. The scholarship provides $500 for the Fall semester and $500 for the Spring semester to help offset the costs of school.
The reunion and meeting went extremely well, despite the earlier than anticipated game time. Thanks to all who helped with the reunion arrangements and/or the general meeting.
We hope you enjoy some of the pictures from the weekend gathering that are shown below and on the following pages.
