LTJG Richard Floyd "Bunnie" Davis, Jr., 27, a pilot in
the U.S. Navy died July 15, 1955 when his fighter plane, an AD-4
Skyraider, crashed at sea during naval maneuvers in the Mediterranean
Sea. His squadron was operating off of USS Intrepid (CV-11). His
body was never recovered.

While attending UNC, Richard Floyd Davis, Jr. served as battalion
commander in his senior year and was vice president of the student
body. After commissioning, he attended flight school.
