To members of the Carolina NROTC Alumni Association,
In order to obtain the much-needed status of a student organization
and allow our voice to be heard on campus, midshipmen of The University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill NROTC Battalion created the Future Naval Officers Association (FNOA) in 1999. You may remember
receiving a letter from the FNOA about this time last year. The FNOA sent out similar letters on 23
March 2000 asking you once again for your tax-deductible support. Any donation will be greatly
appreciated.
Since our last letter, the midshipmen of the Carolina Battalion have been successful
at maintaining and enhancing the enthusiasm and dedication you helped create during your time at Carolina.
Thanks in part to your generous donations, we enjoyed a wonderful transition into the millenium. Midshipmen
activities this year include Color Guard appearances at sports events, a trip to New Orleans for the annual
Tulane Drill Competition, the Navy and Marine Corps Birthday Ball, hosting an NROTC Basketball Tournament,
and the Seniors' Formal "Dining-In," to name but a few.
In order to finance these activities and events, we midshipmen have spent many Sunday
mornings completing "Stadium Cleanups," whereby the battalion cleans Kenan Stadium after every home
football game. Although stadium cleanups generate the major portion of our budget, our goal of $15,000 will be
difficult to achieve without help from those who paved the road we walk on today.
As we strive towards our common goal of becoming officers in the Navy and Marine Corps, we
would greatly appreciate any and all contributions to our battalion funds. These funds enable us to partake
in activities and ceremonies that help prepare us for our future careers. If you would like to make a contribution,
please make the check payable to The Quarterdeck Society and mail it to the address in the letterhead.
For more information about the Carolina Battalion, please contact the unit at (919) 962-1198 or email our Public
Affairs Officer, Charlotte Brock, shawlett@email.unc.edu. Thank you f
or your time and consideration. Fair Winds and Semper Fidelis.
Very respectfully,
RYE BARCOTT
Chairman
Future Naval Officers Association
